Training
The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency
Management’s training division strives to meet the educational and skill
building capabilities of the first responder community of New Mexico. The
courses offered cover various emergency management and domestic preparedness
training needs. The department works with the Exercise Division to augment
designated capabilities. The Training Division’s primary focus is to enhance
local or tribal government knowledge and ability to prevent, protect, respond,
and recover from nature caused/ man-made disasters or emergencies that might
occur in their respective territory.
Training is offered to agencies, departments,
jurisdictions and tribes within the state of New Mexico. The types of
training offered by this department are from FEMA (Federal Emergency
Management Agency) courses for emergency management situations, Federal and
State Sponsored courses for various skill or knowledge issues and G & T
(Grants & Training) Agency Training for Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
courses. FEMA’s courses may be online or offered in classrooms and may range
in numbers from 001 to the 900’s. G & T courses range from Awareness,
Performance at Operations or Technical Level, and Management.
The courses available may be web-based
independent study courses, direct delivery classroom courses, contracted
courses from pre-approved institutions, individuals, or companies,
residential institution courses or other special request training courses.
Course requests will go through the Preparedness Bureau Chief to the Grant/
Finance Department for processing or denial.
To qualify for training, please read all
requirements, restrictions and procedures of each of the course providers
carefully and follow the recommended timeline and registration
requirements. If funding from the New
Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Grant Office
is being requested, all required paperwork and information must be submitted
prior to the training and be approved fully before the training occurs.
Locals need to request training through their local Emergency
Management.
